Time is no longer linear in the entity that is Rapitae. It’s continuum has been deconstructed and other forms of life have emerged. This reformulation of unchangeable occurrences explores the nature of synchronicity and the deconstruction of individuation.
Time is like the ocean, with its own life and passage. The ocean’s current forges an ever‐changing path, bringing nutrients and life to all that passes through it. Similarly, time passes through our lives. Every moment is a new present. We’re pushed forward, from the moment of our birth, by life’s current. No sooner have we realized that it is 2 o’clock than 2 o’clock has passed.
Time moves forward with all it contains. Moments, once realized, float as they are in eternity.
Collecting pieces of time through video, Yupica reorganizes them, allowing them to incorporate with an invisible force that is pure energy. As they are touched and squeezed, new ecosystems and organisms emerge. This process allows for transformation and possibility. This is Rapitae. An important foundation of Yupica’s work is to support the unique ecosystem from which Rapitae appears.
Captured moments of time materialize as a part and an extension of Rapitae, that are repositioned and carve out new paths for themselves. As the movement of color and fragments organically shift, a series of unique but interconnected incidents become the visible agents of changing energy. The boundaries between matter and spirituality that traditionally live in realized moments of linear time fall away in the new system.
Rapitae is a shape shifter, constantly changing forms as it moves from solid to liquid, from concrete to abstract. Its infinite malleability inspires us to rise above our pre-established concept of self and to evolve consciously. We can see a mirror of humanity’s move toward conscious awareness of the nature of universal energy —the merging of the material and spiritual worlds— in Rapitae. Yupica seeks to reflect this merging of artificiality and nature in the global ecosystem and to inspire viewers to question their pre-established concepts of self and other.
